M (10-12). [Final project for my digital II class]

These kids live in that little window of time where they are not little kids and not teens.  They are self-aware but not too self-conscious.  I want to capture that moment of kids on the brink of adolescence.  I love all of them and I hope they make it through to the other side with flying colors.

Ready, set, go!

I feel like I need to blog because I read so many blogs, that sometimes I go through my day imagining my blog entries. I really was sort of virtually blogging, if such a thing can occur (NPR talk show topic in the making).

I started as a lurker back when the kids were about two (2002) and I rediscovered knitting. Just some knitting blogs. Really into the novelty of the whole thing and pleasantly inspired by some of the knitting I saw. I began to feel like some of those bloggers were friends, even though I never met them, or even commented on their blogs.

I went to the Rheinbeck Sheep and Wool Festival one year and I saw some bloggers in person. Only, they didn't see me. Well, they may have seen me but they didn't know that I knew them. It reminded me of that feeling when you see someone you know from an old life but don't really want to talk to so you cross the street or look very interested in the curb landscaping as they pass (c'mon, you know you've faked a cell phone call once in a while). It was voyeuristic seeing these bloggers, but I just didn't know how to start.

So, I started slowly. Commenting here or there on a post. And you know what, either nothing happened or they commented back. And when they responded, well that was kind of fun. It's like breaking down the fourth wall in the theater.

Then I began posting on Flickr. And getting comments. (boy is that addicting). And I started commenting on people's photos (a lot). But most of all, I just get so filled up- and inspired seeing everyone else's creative stuff. I used to feel so alone and rather weird, because I a) love to scrounge around in thift shops b) always have an "I-could-make-that" sense c) zoom right to the craft section at Barnes & Noble d) just LOVE to make things e) get really obsessed with my artistic-pursuit of the moment.

Anyway, I'm going to blog for myself, and really to reach out to others. And just to share more about me, because so many others have shared so much about themselves, and I've found it to be so inspiring.
